Cherry Class

Welcome to Cherry Class

Cherry Class marks the children’s important transition from KS1 to KS2. With the move, children will develop the confidence needed to face new and exciting challenges. Over the year, the children are taught the skills to encourage them to become more independent and embrace a wide range of learning experiences.

Along with greater challenges, we aim to keep learning fun and stimulating. We aspire to keep lessons topic based where possible, enabling the children to deepen their subject knowledge and make learning more purposeful. Topics in Year 3 include: Europe, Stone Age  and Iron Age, Magnets, Light and Sound and Egypt. .

In English we cover a wide range of units, from adventure stories, instruction writing and performance poetry! We continue to read daily in whole class reading sessions and enjoy exploring more sophisticated texts.

Within maths lessons, we will fine-tune our use of known number facts and place value and expand our calculations to  numbers up to 1000, before moving on to written methods of calculation. We enjoy the new challenge of the Multiplication Awards in Year 3, which allows us to work on our quick recall of multiplication and division facts.

We’ll take every opportunity to enhance our learning further by the use of technology and over the year and will continue to use a wide range of apps across the curriculum to support our learning.  The children will be introduced to learning a new language; Spanish and we will endeavour to keep everyone fit with our PE sessions each week.
