Spirituality
At this church school, all aspects of school life reflect a Christian ethos and this policy is based on Christian principles. At Woodborough CE School we believe that it is very important to provide all children with a range of opportunities to help them develop spiritually. We believe that spiritual development may not be synonymous with Religious Education and Collective Worship and can be explored through many different curriculum areas. As a school we focus on the idea of four concepts of spirituality: self, others, world and beauty and beyond.
What do we mean by spirituality and being spiritual?
Being spiritual means thinking about big questions, like where we come from, what makes us special, and how we should treat others.
It’s about feeling connected – to ourselves, to other people, to nature, or something bigger than us.
While spirituality and religion can overlap, they’re not the same:
- Religion is often organised, with specific beliefs and institutions.
- Spirituality is more personal and individual, sometimes practiced outside of any religious system.
