Intent

Why do we teach this? Why do we teach it in the way we do?

As a Church of England School, the Christian faith is the foundation of everything that we do at Woodborough.  In all learning and life experiences, we aim to fulfil our school vision. Within our caring community, we provide an environment where all children feel known, accepted, and valued as individuals. Our Christian faith affects not only what we teach but also how we teach. We believe that it is fundamental for our children to belong to a safe and nurturing community, founded on strong Christian values. Our children develop an array of skills that will enable them to make their own positive contribution to our global society.

At Woodborough CE Primary School, we believe that the teaching of Religious Education (RE) is vital for the development of each child as an individual. RE empowers them to become tolerant, understanding citizens, who demonstrate British Values and who are spiritually, morally, socially and culturally literate. By teaching Christianity and other world religions, we promote respect and open-mindedness towards all faiths and beliefs and encourage pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self-awareness and reflection. Our RE curriculum contributes to these essential elements of knowledge, core concepts and the underpinning theology.

At Woodborough CE School, we share thought-provoking and enjoyable learning experiences. We deliver challenging and effective RE to pupils, encouraging them to use higher order thinking skills that will impact on all their learning, not only in RE but across all subjects. Our curriculum develops children’s understanding and appreciation of world religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community.
