Oak Class
Welcome to Oak Class (Reception/Year 1).
In Oak Class, we support children in settling into school life, gently introducing them to daily routines and encouraging positive attitudes towards learning. Our class includes both Reception and Year 1 children, and we provide a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child feels safe, valued, and excited to explore.
We offer a rich mix of playful, hands-on experiences that spark curiosity and build confidence. Children enjoy a balance of child-initiated play and adult-led activities, both indoors and in our fantastic outdoor learning area. Learning is carefully planned around the children’s interests and developmental needs, ensuring that every child is engaged and supported.
As children progress through Year 1, we begin to introduce more structured learning in mathematics and English, while still maintaining a creative and practical approach. In maths, children explore number, shape, and measures through real-life contexts and problem-solving activities. We begin to use simple recording methods and introduce key concepts such as addition, subtraction, and place value. Our daily Mastering Number sessions help children develop a deep understanding of number and fluency in mental maths.
In English, we build on phonics knowledge to support reading and writing. Children enjoy daily phonics sessions, whole-class reading, and opportunities to write for different purposes. We introduce spelling patterns, sentence structure, and grammar in fun and meaningful ways, helping children to become confident and expressive communicators.
Oak Class is a joyful and stimulating place to learn, where every child is encouraged to take their next steps with enthusiasm and pride.
