Charitable Givings
At Woodborough Primary School we believe that even the smallest actions can make a big difference. Our children show courageous advocacy by standing up for causes they believe in and working together to make positive change in the wider world as well as in our own school community.
House Charities
Our School Council has led the way in ensuring that every child can take part in charitable giving. Each of our four Houses supports a chosen charity:
-
Mars House – Cancer Research
-
Jupiter House – Air Ambulance
-
Mercury House – British Heart Foundation
-
Venus House – RSPCA
At the end of each term, the House that raises the most funds makes the largest contribution to their charity. This system not only raises vital funds but also encourages teamwork, generosity and healthy competition.
Whole-School and Individual Initiatives
Courageous advocacy is also seen in the many ways our children go above and beyond to support good causes:
-
A group of children recently took part in a triathlon to raise funds for Restless Development, an international youth-led development charity.
-
Children regularly make items to sell on the school playground, with profits going directly to their chosen charities.
-
Individual children pursue their own causes – for example, one pupil bravely had her long hair cut off to support The Prince’s Trust.
Making a Difference at SchoolMaking a Difference at School
Our School Council also takes an active role in improving life at Woodborough. They organised the Wonderful Woodborough Walk, where the whole school completed a 10K walk to raise funds for new OPAL play equipment – a fantastic example of how our children care for their own community as well as others.
Through these activities our pupils learn that they have the power to make a difference. They grow in empathy, develop leadership skills and show that together we can bring about real and lasting change.
